Founded in 1890 and part of the DN Media Group, Dagens Næringsliv (DN) is one of the largest and most influential business-focused newspaper in Norway.

DN takes pride in striking the right balance between in-depth investigative journalism and staying ahead with fast, up-to-the-minute breaking news. We know that a full article takes a lot of time to produce, but we need to be able to publish something more, all the time, when that high-quality content is being created.”

For breaking news and real-time updates, DN features a prominent news studio at the top of its front page—home to its live blogs. This setup allows journalists to quickly publish frequent updates, ensuring that the latest information is always available. It also reinforces the impression that every time users visit DN, there’s something new to discover.

Live blogging enables a kind of just-the-facts news flash that creates an impression of something new being published all the time.”

Live Center opened up possibilities for using resources better, according to Marit. In-depth journalism requires time, resources and focus, and not every piece of data or information requires a full article. With live blogs, it is simple to provide readers with real-time, near-constant updates without taking valuable time away from journalists’ core work or diluting the effect of the longer-form, high-quality content journalists produce.
DN’s “latest news banner” sits prominently atop the homepage, continuously pulling fresh posts from various live blog channels. This dynamic feature ensures a steady stream of real-time updates—from breaking news to the latest developments in the stock market—offering readers something new every time they visit. “Users return time and again because they feel there’s always something fresh and engaging to discover,” explains Marit. “By meeting this demand for instant, ongoing information, we reduce churn and increase the likelihood of gaining new subscribers.”
Live blogging also gives DN the flexibility to quickly launch dedicated blogs for time-sensitive events, such as election coverage, natural disasters, or public health crises like Covid-19.
